Transalp XL600V PD10
Since 2004, we've been absolutely delighted with our two Honda Transalps, XL600V, PD10, built in 1999. One in "G-142 Tasmanian Green" for Angelika and "NH-1 Black" for Dietmar. No breakdowns and virtually indestructible for about 180,000 km! (And that's why they weren't for sale, even though we were constantly asked.) Passing the annual inspection (§57a) without any issues was routine. If a part needed replacing, HONDA Magnum took care of it.
For many years we used Michelin Anakee 3 and Continental Trail Attack tires, but since 2019 we've relied on the Heidenau K60 Scout. It suited the increased off-road component of our trips and has M+S (mud and snow) markings for the colder months! Fuel consumption remained reliably between 3.9 and 4.5 liters per 100 kilometers over all these years, which was a real advantage, especially in expensive northern countries.
The pannier sets were from GIVI. We also installed a center stand, and as a little luxury, heated grips, a 12V socket, and a time and temperature display on the handlebars.
Everything on both bikes was original, nothing modified. Okay, one thing: in 2015 we treated ourselves to new seats for more comfort and less pain on long journeys!
Well, and in June 2023, our two faithful travel companions changed hands. We acquired two new and modern Transalp 750 motorcycles and reluctantly parted ways with our two PD10s. They will go on many more wonderful trips and bring their new owners much joy! Although... we should have kept them....
